Digital Television Conversion
| The upcoming Digital Television (DTV) Conversion is happening February 17, 2009 and is going to have an effect on consumers who watch television with rabbit ears or with an antenna on the roof. By law, all full-power broadcast television stations must stop using analog transmission and change to a digital format by this date.
|
Questions and Answers |
| Why Switch to Digital? | Digital technology provides an improved picture and sound while transmitting it in less bandwidth than analog. This frees up bandwidth that was previously being used by analog television transmission. This newly available bandwidth will now be used for public safety communications such as fire and police and rescue.
|
| Who Does this change to digital affect? | It has affected broadcasters for years already to
prepare for this. As for the public most people will not even
notice the change. If you watch your television from your antenna
off-air on an older analog television then you will be affected.
That is the only group affected.
|
| Does this mean I need a High Definition (HD) Television? | No. Standard Definition Television will continue to work. However if you are going to be buying a new television I strongly suggest you purchase a High Definition Television. |
| Will this affect my television from a satellite receiver or cable set-top-box? . |
No. You will not even notice the change. Your local television stations are already provided to you by your satellite or cable provider. |
