The birth of MPEG4 is upon us with complete solutions becoming available. The first to market is H.264 AVC with many excellent encoders being produced. The current market thirst for decoders is being filled by several manufacturers. The emergence of multiple decoding solutions providing a variety of interfaces will allow large networks to benefit from the reduction in bandwidth and equipment costs. The first systems to market are standard definition television.

High Definition solutions and VC-1 Windows Media solutions in stand-alone encoding and decoding components are slower to market. However soon all of these formats will be available in systems that will be compatible with SD and HD with MPEG4 and MPEG2 encoding and decoding possible.
